Gamma Epsilon Tau (GET) is a national co-ed honros fraternity for the graphic arts. In 1941, a group of printing students at the University of California at Santa Barbara formed Xi Omicrom Pi Fraternity. The primary purpose of thsi fore-runner of Gamma Epsilon Tau was to foster a greater knowledge of printing through the creation of a brotherhood. Its activities included Printing Week festivities, selection of a Miss Student Printer, and numerous educational trips and tours.
Xi Omicron Pi was one of the older groups that evolved into GET, which was officially organized in 1953 at the Annual Conference on Printing Education held in New York City under the auspices of the International Graphic Arts Education Association. The name Gamma Epsilon Tau comes from the ancient Greek language. Translated, Gamma means letter, literature, or alphabet; Epsilon, science or knowledge; and Tau art or craft. Hence, Gamma Epsion Tau Stands for "The Science or Knowledge of the Art and Craft of Letters."
